I read a sign posted on the window
of a store as I was driving by. It read “Everything
must go! Nothing Held Back”. I guess it was their way of letting the public
know that there wasn’t any merchandise that wasn’t for sale. They were not
withholding their best stuff. They put it ALL out there. As I drove past the store I kept replaying
those words in my head, “Nothing Held
Back." I knew that there was a spiritual application to those words as I
felt the Holy Spirit stirring in me.
How
many times do we withhold our very best from God? There could be a number
of reasons for doing so, like fear of others, lack of understanding, allowing
our flesh to control and many more. I know I am guilty of it. I can recall
situations when I know I was asked to do something and while my intentions were
to give God my best I allowed my own fear or what others thought prevent me
from giving God my best. Some of us find it easier to adopt a “Nothing Held Back” philosophy in our
careers, our hobbies, in our families but it’s difficult to have that same
attitude for the things of God. I have witnessed people going through great
lengths to move up the career ladder or going to extremes when they are doing
something they like, but those same people I see giving their all in other
arenas don’t have that same zeal in doing things for God. I believe that if there is
anyone or any situation that deserves our best then God definitely does. At the
risk of sounding cliché, did he not give us His very best when He sent His only
son as a sacrifice for our sins (despite the fact He knew what He was going to
face)? If anyone had a “Nothing Held Back
Attitude”, God did!
This needs to be our theme as we
enter into worship, in serving others, in living our lives day in and day out. Let’s adopt a “Nothing Held Back” attitude from this day forward. In everything you do for Him,
give it your best and withhold nothing. I promise that the returns are immeasurable! Be
encouraged today.
