How many times have you heard the
phrase used “I can’t _________
without ________.” I have heard
it a lot, especially from my high school students. They use it when they are
trying their best to get me to allow them to have something they probably
shouldn’t have anyway (phones, headphones, using notes/book on a test). But I
have also heard this phrase from adults a great deal as well. The list is
endless…
§I
can’t go on with out him/her.
§ I
can’t make it through the day if I don’t have a cigarette/alcohol/drugs.
§ I
can’t live without shopping,
I used to be a Coke-aholic. I drank it like water. People would ask me about it and
I would say “I cannot survive one day
without coke!”. Since then, I have discovered that there is life after coke J.
What
is it that you feel that you cannot do without or live without? A lot of times it is
certain people that we feel we cannot live without and then there are others
that feel they cannot make it without certain things. For some to live without someone/something
really may be challenging or difficult. It may even take time to let “it” go, but
it can be done. The only thing we should be saying we can’t live without is “God”. The Psalmist understood His need for God. We read in Psalms 42:1 "As the deer pants for the water, so my soul
pants for you, God.” This
should be our hearts cry to our creator, God I cannot make it without you!!!
Today, let God know that it is Him that
you cannot live without, then show Him by spending time with Him, studying AND
obeying His Word, and living His Word!
