EXPECTATION

I was having a conversation with a friend the other day about the way God works in our lives. The more and more I talked and the deeper the level of conversation, I begin to realize that my thoughts of God are too low. I ask Him to work in situations in my life or on my behalf, but the reality is that my thought process is that He may do it or He may not. I don’t really expect God to do what He promised me He would do.

The world’s view of expectation is defined as “To look forward to the probable occurrence or appearance of” (freedictionary.com). But in the spiritual realm expectation has nothing to do with probability or the way things appear in the natural.

Expectation” means believing that God will do what He says He will do, because of Who He is. That’s it.

Think about it, when a woman is expecting a child she prepares for the entire time. Her body makes preparation for the child to be delivered. She gets ready for the child because she believes that this child will be coming into this world. Shouldn’t we do the same when we are “expecting”?

  • Prepare for the promise to come to fruition.

  • Do what is within us to do to be ready to receive the promise.

  • Expect God to do what He said He would do.

I think we all need to take our expectations of God to another level. After all, he is the one who parted the Red sea, walked on the water, turned water to wine, healed the sick, and raised the dead. He is and always will be Who He says He is. Not only that, He has proven over and over again that He can do the impossible, the miraculous, the extraordinary. What do you expect Him to do in your life?
