The
answer that people give in response to the question “How do I look?” has
gotten many people in trouble. When it is asked, it is usually by someone who
may not really want to know the truth about how they look physically. They actually want someone to tell them they look great
whether or not it is true. It is no secret that a lot of us go through great lengths to look a certain way. Many of us do this so that
others can see and affirm what we already know(at least we think we do). We live in a world that is (outer) beauty driven. The television
creates for us this atmosphere where we have to look a certain way in order to be successful. No, I am not saying that the outward appearance should be neglected. But should outer beauty be our main focus?
What
if there was as much emphasis placed on our “spiritual” look as it is on our
physical look?
Would
we really be able to handle a true assessment of our inner man, the inside that people don’t
get to see by looking at our mere outward adornment? A look that goes way beyond our
make-up, our hairstyle, and past our fashionable clothes and shoes.
For me, I know that would be a tougher reality for me to face than an assessment of my outer man and I know I am not alone in this. If we are honest with ourselves we must realize that we need to do some “spiritual primping” in our lives today. We have to pull out the mirror of His word to reflect what needs to be changed and allow God to do a makeover in us. Our goal should be that any time we ask, "How do I look?" we should be expecting to look more and more like Him. Be encouraged today!

Your beauty should not come
from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry
and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading
beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
I Peter 3:3-4
