As we
focus on the Savior during this sacred and Holy week, our first characteristic
we will look at is the fact that Jesus was a servant. Perhaps it’s just me, but I find it amazing that Jesus, the
Son of God came to Earth as a servant. In the scriptures we find in Mark
10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come
to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Often
times we look at serving others as a demeaning thing. In
Philippians
2:7 we read “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a
servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”
So, if the King of Kings can come down from the throne in Heaven and be a
servant then why is it that we think it is beneath us to serve one another?
It’s not! It is the greatest act we can do by serving one another.
The question may be posed, “How do we serve one another?” Our
greatest example was Jesus Himself. Look at His tenure here on Earth. What did
He do? He walked around meeting the needs of those He came in contact with: the
lame, the blind, the hungry, the thirsty, the Jew, the Greek, the sinner,
whosoever. It was never about Him or who He was. His sole purpose on this Earth was to be a servant to us. Let’s take Jesus’ example of being a servant
and follow His lead. Where can you serve
today? Where is there a need that
needs to be met? There is so much work to be done!
