The
Psalmist in Psalm 23:3a writes “He restores my soul;”
What does it (really) mean to be
restored? To restore something is to bring back to or put back into a
former or original state (www.merriam-webster.com). I have watched
many television shows that take something that was once beautiful, but through
the years and several owners it’s original beauty has been tarnished, and great
strides are taken to bring it back to its’ original status. This process is
done with cars, paintings, furniture, homes, and many other things as well. People can also go through the
restoration process.
Isn’t that what God does for us? He takes us, His once beautiful creation
that has been battered by life’s storms, challenges, and hardships and through
His Word and our yielding to Him, He restores us. The process does not happen
overnight. It takes time to peel back layer after layer of pain, mis-trust,
shattered dreams, disappointment and failures. But I am so grateful that God is a restorer.
I am experiencing God's restoration in my life and I rejoice that He cares enough about me to do that.
He cares about all of us and desires for us to be all that He created us to be.
He created us for a purpose and He desires for us to accomplish it. In 1 Peter
5:10 it says “And after you have suffered
a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory
in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
Do you need to be restored? Will you
allow God to do a complete restoration in your life? He desires
to do that for you.
