They say confession is good for the
soul; well here is mine. Yesterday, I had the nerve to get into a funk, a low
place. I know it was Mother’s Day, but I allowed myself to spiral down
emotionally. I was sad because I missed my mom. I was sad because I didn’t feel
the love I wanted to feel on this day. I was just plain down and out for the
first half of the day at least. But it wasn’t too long before I had a jolt of
reality.
Not long after I was out of the
house and headed to church, my friend texted me to inform me that her mom was
in the hospital with chest pains. My friend lived out of town so she was
preparing to get on the highway to head here to check on her mom. It made me
think about the fact that I got to spend time with my two boys uninterrupted
and she had to leave her children at home while she traveled out of town to
visit her sick mom. I made it to church. Still I was in a bit of a low place. I
saw the smiling faces. I saw people sincerely worshipping even though they were
going through things in their own personal lives. I felt so convicted. I needed
to snap out of it; get out of that
place. My day proceeded on. Later on that afternoon, I visited the hospital. I
went to the waiting room. It was filled with families waiting to see or at
least hear about their loved one’s condition. Once again I thought to myself about
the fact that my kids could have been visiting me out here or my family could
be in the waiting room waiting to hear about our loved one. When I left the
hospital I stopped by a store and I noticed a couple begging for change outside
a grocery store. I thought to myself while
my finances are low right now, at least I do have a job.
Once I made it back home I surveyed
the things I had experienced throughout the day. I had a serious reality check
and realized that in spite of and no matter what, I Am Blessed (and so are you).
Be
encouraged today.
You will be blessed in the
city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and
the crops of your land and the young of your livestock--the calves of your
herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will
be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated
before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in
seven. The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put
your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. Deuteronomy 28:3-8
