As they were running out the door I
heard them yelling. The noise was so loud that it occupied every empty space in
the air. I was standing at my door as one by one they raced past me, some
yelling their final goodbyes. In passing I was able to make out one of their
loud chants “It’s A Wrap!” I guess it
was their way of announcing that it was done, like they do in the movies. Saying they were excited would be an
understatement. Yes, you guessed it. It was the last day of school! The end was
upon us and my how glad we ALL were, both students and teachers. That was one
ending that we looked forward to and celebrated its’ long awaited arrival.
I guess not all endings are
celebrated though. We love to celebrate beginnings because let’s face it
beginnings are exciting! I guess we don’t focus on most endings because a lot
of them are sad and are accompanied by overwhelming emotion. While I know that
not all endings are happy occasions, I know that most things do have an end and
that every ending has a purpose. They signify closure and furthermore they also
point to a new beginning.
Unfortunately, we hold on to some
things much longer than we should because we dread the end. We tend to hold on
to acquaintances, friendships, romantic relationships, positions, and many
other things even though we know that the end is upon us. Why? I believe that
it is the fear of “What’s next?” that keeps us in that place. When we are unsure or
fearful of the next move, we would rather stay in that place despite the signs
that it is over, despite the turmoil or the pain. It becomes confortable to us.
What we must understand is that if God has said it’s the end, then what else is
there for us to do but to let it go.
Has God given you the nudging that “it” is at the end, but you find it
difficult to let “it” go? I encourage
you to call it done today. It’s time to declare, “It’s a wrap!” and move on. Remember His endings always lead to something
better, something greater, much more than we could ever imagine. Trust Him even
in the “ending” and He will lead you to a “new beginning”.
The end of a matter is
better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Ecclesiastes 7:8
