There
were some special words spoken to me yesterday and in the words of a dear friend they
“Blessed
my socks off!” No, the words that were spoken were not from a famous
preacher, teacher or an evangelist. It was an average person carrying on his
normal daily routine that spoke them. After reading my blog he said these words
to me “Your platform is too small. Your
writing is so deep and moving. You have a gift that you need to share with the
world." It caught me off guard when he said those words. It was much more
than flattery. Those words penetrated my core. I knew that God was using him to
speak into my life. You see I needed to hear those words to encourage me. In
the course of a day the negativity gets me in a rut and it seemed at just the
time I needed something, there it was! Unfortunately we find more often than
not, people speak death and not life to people. We
often use our mouth to tear down and not build up. Instead of speaking words that encourage, a lot of times we choose those words that hinder or discourage. It really is a sad thing because this should not be!
Words are SO powerful and I think we ALL need to be reminded of
that. The scripture tells us that there is power in the words we speak. We have
the ability to speak life to a person (and even over ourselves) or we have the
ability to speak death with that same mouth. We need to be careful of the
things we say. Our words must be chosen wisely, spoken in season and in obedience to the
Holy Spirit’s leading. We don’t know what people are going through or have been
through. Our words may be what they need to hear to keep them from giving up and throwing in the towel. I don't know about you, but I do not take that responsibility lightly. The choice is ultimately ours. I choose
to speak life!
