It was raining cats and dogs! The rain poured like someone
had literally opened the floodgates. The effects of the torrential downpour were
evident; streets flooded, once nicely manicured lawns now looked like lakes, and
bodies of water in place of dry ground. Luckily, I did not have to be out in
it. My classroom was my safe haven. Though tucked away on the inside, the
students kept watch from the window. One student in particular was really
worried about her mom because she was at home alone and they lived close to the
river. One of the students asked her “Don’t
you all plan ahead in case this type of stuff happens?” She sadly said, “No we don’t really think about it until it
happens.” I felt sad for her because she was genuinely worried and knew
that she had no plan in case of a flood. But I guess we are like that in some
ways too. It’s not until we get into a tough place that we realize that we
don’t have what it takes to make it through. The Word warns us about those
tough times in John 16:33 "In this world you will have trouble." No one is immune to the floods of life, but we can definitely take the necessary
precautions to make sure that we are flood proof. Jesus speaks about this in a
parable in Luke 6:48 “It is like a
person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock.
When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because
it is well built.” Want to flood proof your life? Make sure your foundation is
strong, built on the Word of God. Then and ONLY then will it be flood proof.
~ And
every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be
likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And
the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Matthew 7:26-28
