You know it is a
wonder that people even come out of their houses anymore. With the recent
school shootings, violent crimes on the streets and everyday senseless violence
that takes place, it’s enough to even get out of bed. The response to these
horrible things people are seeing happening is usually one rooted in fear. Some people often end up going to extremes to protect themselves.
There are groups organized for the sole purpose of preparing for the things
that “might” happen. Fear has become the default mode for most people today,
and yes even Christians. But is that the way we are supposed to handle the
frightening things happening in our world? How are we supposed to confront our fears? I
am so glad you asked! Here are three things that I believe are essential in dealing
with fear.
1st : We
cannot get in a mode of worrying. Sounds simple I know, but there are
so many people that are living lives full of stress because they let worrying
invade every area of their life. In Matthew
6:27 (NIV) it says “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour
to his life?” Our worrying (basically fear) doesn’t change anything and it
certainly doesn’t help matters. So why
do it?
2nd : We
must fix our hearts and minds on the one who controls it all. Isaiah 41:10 says “So
do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” It is a matter of focus. We must fix our eyes on Jesus and not the situation or the circumstances. He is the only one that can cover us in times like these.
3rd : Most
important, We must PRAY. In I Thessalonians 5:17 we are commanded to “Pray without ceasing. It is
when we approach the throne of Grace with a pure heart that God moves on our behalf. It is past time that we get in a position of prayer. Prayer is not only needed but a necessity in every arena. Pray for the
city. Pray for the State. Pray for the Nation. Just Pray!!! If we can match the
fear that we carry with prayer, what power that will bring!
I choose to live a
“No Fear” life because that's what God expects of me and you too!
