Deleting The Old To Make Room For The New

I had known for quite some time that this dreaded day would come. I didn’t quite know when it would come, but I knew it was quickly approaching. You see I am somewhat of a hoarder, electronically speaking. I hold on to e-mails with the thought process that I may need to refer back to them “one day”. I think of the “What if's”.  So I read them, but never delete them.  The end result is that they continually pile up, one after the other and before I know it there are thousands of them! (I know I am not the only one.)  My inbox on my work e-mail was literally bursting at the seams!

The dreaded message finally came, in the form of an e-mail (go figure). My inbox was not only full but had exceeded the limit. I needed to delete the old messages from all of my folders so that I can begin receiving new messages again. It was at the point that I could no longer put it off. It had to be dealt with. So there I sat hitting the delete button as if my life depended on it. I scrolled through e-mail after e-mail, some of them were as old as two years ago! Yep I have a problem and I have admitted it. I am not alone with this issue though. There are many people holding on to “old things” in life, things that should have been deleted long ago. Things like past hurts, offenses, failed relationships, missed opportunities have become backed up in their life "in-box". To go a bit further, they become so consumed trying to hold on to those "old things" not realizing that the "new things" are being hindered from coming through. This is a simple truth, you cannot get what God has in store for you today if you continue to hold on to the "What once was..." or "What used to be..." of yesterday. The future is ahead of you, but the past is still in your in-box. It’s time to hit DELETE.

~ Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:13-14
~ Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19
