A Place of Rest

A quick glance across the room and there my little dog, Max was curled up in his “daddy’s lap” (my husband). That dog does not play around when he is tired. He will search around for his target, i.e. any person sitting in a comfortable place preferably with a blanket so that he can snuggle. One thing about Max, he is very particular about the place he chooses to rest. He will wander around the house searching for that perfect spot. Once he finds it, he curls up and literally goes into a trance.

Sometimes I feel like Max, searching for a place to rest, not necessarily a physical rest but emotional or spiritual rest. Life can be so crazy with responsibilities, expectations, and obligations, so much so that I feel like I am in a tug of war. Oh how I long for that place of rest! I have to be honest and say I actually envied Max as I watched him curled up in my husband’s lap last night. He seemed as if he was at such peace. When I think about it, I guess I shouldn’t be envious of him because I too have a place of rest. In Matthew 11:28 Jesus tells us “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” That certainly tops the lap of a mere human (no offense dear). That place of rest I find in Him is second to none. No matter what is going on, how loud the noise, His rest quiets the chaos and calms the storm. Thank you God that you are my place of rest today and forever more!
