I belong to a
minority group. It’s members like to remain anonymous, but I will break my
anonymity for you. I belong to a group of people who have sworn off Valentine’s
Day. I am sure there are various reasons that we would rather skip over day 14 on
the February calendar. The reminders are everywhere; cupids, hearts, roses,
candy oh my! While I personally don’t care for this day, I do get somewhat excited for
those around me who wait in anticipation to get the gift from that “special someone. As I have been bracing
myself for today’s celebrations, I thought about the focus of this day. In a
nutshell it is a matter of the heart, right? Unfortunately, there are people with some deep issues of the "heart" not just on this day, but everyday. Now when I say "heart" I am not referring simply to that organ that pumps blood through our
bodies. Actually, I am referring to a person’s innermost core or spiritual center. The only way I know to truly deal with “these issues” is to apply God’s Word
and that’s when real healing can take place.
- If you are
dealing with a Sick or Weak Heart
– Allow God to make His dwelling place in your heart. He is your source of
strength. We find in Ephesians 3:16-18 “I
pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner
strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as
you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you
strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should,
how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is
- If you are
dealing with a Troubled Heart-
The key to overcome your heart
condition is to trust in God’s promises. We find in John 14:27 “Don’t
let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
- If you are
dealing with a Hardened Heart - The
Word says in Proverbs 28:14: “Blessed
is the man who always fears the LORD, but he who hardens his heart falls into
trouble.” So if you have a hardened heart and desire
to be healed of this condition, it is essential to put God in His rightful
place in your life, a place of fear and reverence. If you do this then a "transplant" is inevitable. We find in Ezekiel 36:26 "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
What’s the condition
of your heart today? Your check-up is overdue. No matter your condition, the
doctor is in.
~ Thy word I have treasured
in my heart, That I may not sin against Thee. Psalms 119:11
~ Above all else, guard
your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
